The area around Koblenz
In the area of Koblenz, there are many options to spend a nice day.
You can visit different cities like Mainz, Cologne or Trier.
In Mainz, a city you reach by train in one hour, you can see the large cathedral, the Gutenberg Museum, the Mainzelmännchen (a cartoon well-known from German TV), the stadium of Mainz 05 as well as the church St. Stephan with the impressive windows of Marc Chagall.
After one hour by train, you also reach the beautiful and big city Cologne. The landmark of the city is the cathedral. It is 157m high and was built from 1248 a.D. to 1322 a.D. In the next centuries, more and more was changed. 532 steps lead to the viewing platform. From there you have fantastic views of the city. In Cologne, there is also a nice old town, lots of monuments and museums like the Odysseum or the Chocolate Museum.
Not far away, there is the Funpark Phantasialand with a lot of action all the time: rollercoasters, shows and water rides are going to entertain you. When you like this kind of fun, don’t miss it!
Another impressive city close to Koblenz is Trier. On the way along the romantic Moselle you see many cute towns surrounded by vineyards. There you can visit many Roman buildings like the Kaisertherme, Porta Nigra, many churches and palaces. It's a very old city which is very impressive.
The easiest way to see the near surrounding is by going by ship from Koblenz on the Rhine to Rüdesheim or on the Moselle towards Trier. You can see many castles on the mountains, for example Marksburg, Castle Stolzenfels, Castles Cat and Mouse, the famous rock Loreley and at the Moselle Castle Eltz.
Both tourists and locals have many great opportunities to explore the surrounding area and many options of trips.
I hope you have new ideas for your next trip!
